What to expect in a postnatal Pilates class

Whether or not you’ve done Pilates before, a postnatal Pilates class might be a little different. In fact, it doesn’t matter if you are new to Pilates because this class is all about rebuilding with slower paced rehabilitative movement.

The main things we work on are:

  • Pelvic floor activation, strengthening and relaxation

  • Posture exercises to counter all of the strain on the body of holding and feeding a baby.

  • Reaquaitning ourselves with our bodies- they feel a little different (they are) to before pregnancy

  • Mindful movement - this can be hard to do with a baby but there are usually moments in every class where we manage to find a few breaths.

It’s also worth acknowledging that, with a baby in tow, it might not always be a smooth running class. You may have to stop to attend to your baby, to feed, change, or to entertain. This is all completely normal and expected. It doesn’t matter if your baby cries, we are a community of mums and we all understand!

The best way to approach the postnatal Pilates class is to come with no expectations, to surrender and to acknowledge all of the amazing things you body has been and continues to be capable of.

Postnatal Pilates class is on Fridays 10.45am at The Marindin Hall in Frensham.
